Modernizing Georgia’s oldest courthouse with sounddampened office spaces while preserving 1865 architectural integrity
CONTRACT SCOPE OF SERVICES
F&F was selected to renovate the second and third floors of the historic Fayette County Old Courthouse, a landmark structure built in 1865 that holds the distinction of being Georgia’s oldest courthouse. This sensitive renovation required careful balance between modern functionality needs and preservation of the building’s historic character. Working within strict county guidelines and historic preservation requirements, our team delivered specialized sound-dampening solutions and office modernization while respecting the courthouse’s 157-year-old architectural elements.
The project encompassed precision framing with metal tracks and studs, professional rockwool sound damper installation, and careful drywall finishing that seamlessly matched existing historic walls. On the third floor, we expertly worked around original trim and crown molding without disturbing these historic details, while installing new electrical systems including five outlets and two switches. Additional scope included relocating overhead projection equipment, complete carpet removal and replacement with Shaw Unify carpet tile, and coordinating all work with county staff to maintain courthouse operations. Every aspect of the project adhered to stringent county policies and building safety requirements appropriate for this treasured historic facility.
